Andy Mineo

Andrew Aaron Mineo (born April 17, 1988), is an American Christian hip hop artist, producer, and video director from New York City.  He was raised in a single parent home and he has a sister. His family was very religious and his sister worked as a counselor at a Christian Camp he attended as a child.

He is signed to Reach Records and his creative initiative Miner League. In addition to his solo work, he is a member of Reach Records’ hip hop collective 116 Clique.

Originally from Syracuse, Mineo worked as a producer in high school at Henninger High School in Upstate New York and joined the hip-hop group Fat Camp, signed to Syracuse University’s Marshall Street Records. Originally going by the stage name of C-Lite, Mineo opened for such acts as the Roots, Jadakiss, Immortal Technique, Dead Prez and Common.

“In high school, I built a recording studio in my closet so I got really good at being able to record others, and myself,”  says Mineo. “My game plan was that if as an artist, it didn’t pan out for me, I could still be around music in some other capacity,” he explains.

After moving to New York City and hearing the song Price Tag by Da’ T.R.U.T.H., Mineo decided to close his studio and rededicate his life to Chris. He closed down his production studio in order to restart his career.

He independently released his first mixtape Sin is Wack in 2009 and joined a community outreach program created by Nicky Cruz’s called T.R.U.C.E. where he met long-time friends and collaborators Alex Medina, Wordsplayed, Rich Perez and others.

“The internet made those type of connections even more accessible,” Andy says. “You can discover more niche music and a community with shared values and the same love of hip-hop.”

Upon meeting, Andy began collaborating with Alex Medina on a record called Background that would later be placed on Lecrae’s Rehab album and was Andy’s introduction to Reach Records.

In 2011, Mineo signed with Reach Records and dropped the moniker C-Lite in favor of his actual name. To date, Reach Records’ sales approach three million records and are distributed through Sony Music Entertainment’s RED.

Its founder and flagship artist Lecrae made Billboard chart history with his #1 album debut across five Billboard charts including the coveted Top 200. Andy Mineo is Reach Records’ next big artist to break. And the pressure can at times be palpable. But in the midst of it all, Andy remains himself.

The same year he signed with Reach Records, Andy released his second mixtape, Formerly Known. In 2013, Mineo returned with his proper full-length studio album, Heroes for Sale.

In 2014 he released the EP Never Land, and 2015 saw the release of the hit single Lay Up along with the album Uncomfortable. Two years later, Mineo joined Wordsplayed for the collaborative mixtape Magic and Bird. Peaking inside the Top 50 of the Billboard 200, the effort featured the singles Dunk Contest and Judo.

In 2018, Mineo scored gold certification for the single You Can’t Stop Me with Messiah. The same month, he issued the EP I: The Arrow, which featured two songs with Weatherman, and included the single I Ain’t Done.

On August 23, 2014, Andy married Cristina Delgado after their engagement that April. Mineo is currently living in Washington Heights. He was a pastor at Christ Crucified Fellowship, of which Perez is the head pastor, but with the increasing success of his music career took on the role of deacon instead.
